How To Choose The Right Electric Motor For Farm Equipment
You dont need to understand electric motors to ask for help!
Before calling, look for the nameplate on the side of the motor. Text a clear picture where all the numbers can be texted to 319-752-4917.
Tell us what your motor runs, how your motor mounts, whether it uses single-phase or three-phase power, and what's going on with it.
How To Choose The Right Electric Motor For Farm Equipment
Identify the following :
Horsepower, voltage, single phase or three phase power, full load amps, speed or RPM, frame size, frequency, enclosure type, manufacturer, & model number.
Match the Available Power
Confirm the required voltage, horsepower, whether the power is single-phase or three-phase, the motor's frequency, & whether the equipment uses a variable frequency drive.
Match the motor speed.
The replacement motors RPM should closely match the original.
Check the frame, shaft, and mounting style. You can confirm your motor will fit by checking the NEMA frame number, shaft diameter & length, keyway, bolt-hole pattern, base or flange mounting style, motors overall dimensions, shaft orientation.
Consider your environment.
Aspects such as dust, rain, moisture, fertilizers, and more can determine what kind of enclosure is needed to protect the motor.
Think about starting torque.
*Motor selection and installation should be completed or verified by a qualified professional. Always disconnect and lock out power before inspecting, servicing, or removing electrical equipment.
